What would prevent me from getting my HUD or FHA missing money?
You've got to be the owner of the property when the insurance is ended. So even if you owned it at some time but passed it on and there is some missing or unclaimed money you still might not get it if you passed the insurance (or property) on to another owner.
Don't forget that if you refinance, anything owed to you probably went towards any fees for that financing. So if you did the math and your calculations show missing money, double check to take into account any possible fees. But you might want to double check with them ((800) 697-6967, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.) anyhow in case there aren't fees or the fees aren't as high as you thought.
One difference between HUD and other missing money is that there is a time limit. If you don't get your unclaimed funds within six years then HUD doesn't have to give you anything. There are some other things that might prevent you from getting your missing money so check with HUD asap.
